LETTING GO OF THE OLD YOU

Letting go of the old you - emerge into a butterfly

When I was diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses in a space of a few years. I really didn’t know what was happening, my life felt like I was going nowhere. I was stuck at home, sick and tired of being sick and tired. Constantly searching for the answer, the solution to getting well. To feeling like me again. It never came. Then one day it come to me after listening to a million podcasts, reading a zillion articles, watching billions of Youtube videos, reading books, taking courses, speaking to specialists, speaking to Naturopaths, Acupuncturists, spiritual healers, energy healers, friends and family. It finally came to me. I was never going to be the same again! I had evolved from that former version of myself to emerge like a butterfly breaking free of the cocoon. I had changed, I was different, I was the new me.

I had transformed from the Project Administrator working the 9-5 job, I had been in a cocoon for years, healing my body, healing my mind and healing my soul. I felt different, I acted different. I had different interests. I accepted the new me, I embraced my new life. I knew I had to help others in my situation deal with the letting go of the old person they once were and shine like the diamond they were becoming. These are 5 steps that helped me let go and emerge into a butterfly.

  1. Mediation - looking within, facing the ugliness of my past, embracing it and releasing it from my soul. Accepting that these things shaped me into the person I am, not feeling like the victim but the victor of my past.

  2. Asking Angels for guidance - I connected with my angels and spirit guides during these meditation sessions and asked them to help me release any ill feelings I had towards my self. All negative emotions I had buried, all feelings of shame, guilt, failure, feelings I wasn’t good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not thin enough, not funny enough. I asked for guidance on how to do this. Which led me to;

  3. Self Love - Truly loving who I am. Faults and all. I practiced many forms of self love including journaling, mirror work, positive affirmation, taking time for myself - having that massage, looking after my skin, going for that walk, watching what I put into my body, listening to what my body needed. If I was tired, I slept, with no guilt, no shame, this is my journey on earth no body else’s. I choose how I want to live my life! Of course I consider those nearist and dearist to me but in a whole I consider myself first.

  4. Practicing Gratitude - I enjoy practicing gratitude everyday in the shower. It has numerous benefits that can enhance our overall well-being and quality of life. Firstly, it shifts our focus from what is lacking in our lives to what we already have, fostering a sense of contentment and satisfaction. By acknowledging and appreciating the positive aspects of our lives, we cultivate a more optimistic outlook, leading to increased happiness and reduced stress levels.

  5. Practicing Journalling - I enjoy journaling at night, I have incorporated it into my nightly routine. It helps to clarify thoughts and emotions. Writing down our innermost thoughts allows us to process and make sense of them. It provides a safe space to explore our feelings without fear of judgment or criticism. By putting our thoughts on paper, we gain a better understanding of ourselves and our experiences.

Through meditation, I was able to quiet my mind and connect with my inner self. It allowed me to let go of the past and focus on the present moment, finding peace and acceptance in my new reality. Journalling became my outlet for expressing my thoughts and emotions, helping me process my journey and gain clarity. It became a tool for self-reflection and growth.

Practicing gratitude shifted my perspective, reminding me of the blessings in my life despite the challenges. It helped me cultivate a positive mindset and appreciate the small victories along the way. Self-love became a crucial part of my healing journey, as I learned to be kind and compassionate towards myself, embracing my limitations and celebrating my strengths.

Asking my angels for guidance provided me with a sense of spiritual support. Whether it was through prayer, meditation, or simply asking for signs, I found comfort in knowing that I was never alone in this journey. And lastly, surrounding myself with a supportive community was essential. Connecting with others who shared similar experiences allowed me to feel understood and validated. It provided a space for empathy, encouragement, and inspiration.

In embracing these steps, I was able to let go of the old version of myself and embrace the beautiful transformation I had undergone. I realised that chronic illness had changed me, but it had also given me a new purpose - to help others navigate their own journey of transformation.

So, to all those who are struggling with chronic illness, know that you are not alone. Embrace the changes, accept the new you, and trust in your ability to emerge as a butterfly. You are resilient, strong, and capable of shining brightly despite the challenges you face. Embrace your journey, and remember, you are not defined by your illness, but rather by the strength and courage you possess. Keep evolving, keep growing, and keep spreading your wings.

Unpredictability is okay

Living a life of unpredictability with chronic illness can be challenging and require a great deal of adaptability and resilience. It means facing constant uncertainty about what each day will bring and how your health will be affected. It involves learning to cope with the physical, emotional, and practical aspects of managing a chronic illness while still finding ways to live a fulfilling life.

In this context, it can be helpful to focus on self-care and self-management strategies. This may involve creating a routine that allows for rest, taking medication as prescribed, and following any recommended treatments or therapies. It also means maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious food, exercising within your capabilities, and managing stress.

It is important to establish a support network of friends, family, or others who understand and can provide assistance when needed. Connecting with others who have similar experiences through support groups or online communities can also be helpful in finding understanding and validation.

Coping with the unpredictability of chronic illness also requires practicing self-compassion and accepting limitations. It is important to acknowledge that there will be good days and bad days, and it is okay to ask for help when needed. It may also be helpful to set realistic expectations and adjust goals and priorities based on your health.

Lastly, maintaining a positive mindset and focusing on the present moment can help navigate the challenges of living with chronic illness. Practicing mindfulness and finding ways to cultivate gratitude and enjoyment in small moments can contribute to a greater sense of well-being despite the unpredictability and challenges faced.
